Assault in norway: sabotaging the nazi nuclear program by thomas gallagher
I didn't highlight one single sentence in this book, but it still makes my list as a story of fortitude and a testament to versatility and adaptability. It’s the story of the Allies’ efforts to destroy Germany’s only supply of heavy water, and consequently keep them from developing a nuclear bomb, which they were very close to doing.
The book was recommended to me by Mark Smith with Mission Centered Solutions (who also recommended Deep Survival on this list). And I must confess, that with as many movies, documentaries, and television programs about World War II that I’ve watched, I had never heard this story mentioned. But now that I know, it seems like I have heard “Norway” and “heavy water” mentioned a number of times. It was even a clue on Jeopardy if I remember correctly.
Anyway, it’s a very inspiring story, and one that begs the question, “How far would YOU be willing to go?” And if you’ve ever had a DISC profile and come out with a strong “D” evaluation, this book is a perfect fit for your, “Who says we can’t do that?” questioning nature.
Recommended for all ranks (and especially people who have received the “D” in their DISC profile)
